About Doofer

Get to know the plants around you.

Doofer brings together photo identification, plant care tools, and educational guides for people growing plants at home or exploring outdoors.

What you can do here

Upload a clear plant photo to request possible matches from Kindwise Plant.id, search by a known name, or request plant health suggestions. The care calculators help you reason about light, watering, and soil. Our plant guides explain what to observe before changing a plant’s care.

The calculators are estimates and the photo results are automated suggestions. Neither replaces checking the plant itself, its growing conditions, or advice from a qualified professional.

Who writes Doofer

Rachid Zieny writes and runs Doofer from Lebanon. He is a plant hobbyist who loves learning about plants and sharing what he learns with others.

Doofer grew out of that love of learning and teaching. Rachid values the community of people who grow plants, and he has deep respect for farmers, whose practical knowledge of soil, water, and seasons shapes how he approaches every guide.

Rachid is not a professional botanist, horticulturist, or veterinarian. That is why every guide is built on published botanical and horticultural references, listed at the end of each page, and why safety questions are directed to qualified professionals.

Doofer is an independent website operated under the name Doofer. For support, corrections, or privacy requests, contact contact@doofer.club.

We do not present this site as a veterinary service, poison control service, or peer-reviewed botanical publication.

How to read our guides

Our educational guides explain common plant care decisions and link to further reading. Care needs vary with species, climate, potting mix, and the conditions inside your home. A suggested schedule or recipe is a starting point to adjust, not a universal prescription.

References point readers toward botanical, horticultural, or poison information resources. They do not imply that those organizations endorse Doofer or have reviewed this site. We do not claim that every article has been independently checked by a credentialed botanist.

AI-generated guide illustrations are labeled. They explain a concept and are not photographs of specimens, records of experiments, or evidence of firsthand growing experience.

If you find an error, send the page address, the passage in question, and a supporting reference through our contact page. This helps us assess the correction.

Where automated results come from

Kindwise Plant.id processes photo identification, health checks, plant searches, and follow-up questions. Its responses may include reference descriptions and AI-generated summaries. Where an AI-generated description is used, the result is labeled in the interface.

A match score expresses model confidence. It is not a measurement of a plant’s toxicity, proof of species identity, or permission to eat it. Missing toxicity information is shown as unknown; a statement of no reported toxicity is not a guarantee of safety for every person or animal.

Do not use a photo result to decide whether to eat a wild plant or mushroom. If exposure or poisoning is suspected, seek professional help promptly. Read the safety disclaimer.

Your photos and saved results

No account is required. Saved results are stored in your browser. Photos and questions submitted for analysis pass through our server to Kindwise, which processes and may retain them under its own terms. Read the privacy policy before uploading sensitive information.

How we test the tools

On October 3, 2026, production photo identification and health requests returned successful responses for an electronics photo and a real Monstera leaf photo. The electronics photo was flagged as non-plant. The leaf photo suggested Monstera deliciosa but was also flagged as non-plant. This conflict is a recorded model limitation, not proof of botanical accuracy. Calculator checks cover arithmetic, invalid inputs, and language behavior; they are not growing trials.

Maintenance and corrections

  • October 3, 2026: replaced assumed window brightness and preset watering schedules with measurement and observation worksheets.
  • September 30, 2026: corrected unsupported review and credential claims, added calculator limitations, and clarified toxicity summaries.
